Things to do in Carmel:
Carmel is home to the Carmel Mission, Mission San Carlos Borromeo del
Rio Carmelo, dates from the 1790’s. Built on a hilltop
overlooking the Carmel River, the Carmel Mission is worth a visit for
the view and a history lession. After visiting Carmel Mission,
walking the town and visiting the beach, there is still plenty to do.
The 17 Mile Drive has a gate into Carmel. The Drive is not free
but it is worth the fee to wind along the coast (don’t miss the Lone
Cypress Tree so often photographed) amid mansions, manicured grounds
and mysterious gated entrances.
Carmel. Seaside village packed with gift shops and art galleries, many
in hidden courtyards. Unique residences among the cypress, pine and oak
trees.
Carmel City Beach, end of Ocean Ave. Wide expanse of white sand with beautiful views. Great for walking, relaxing, or a picnic.
Mission San Carlos Borromeo, west of Hwy 1 on Rio Rd, Carmel. One of
the finest missions. Church, padres quarters and enclosed quadrangle
create an outstanding complex.
