Bumpass Hell, Lassen Volcanic National Park. Most unusual area; boardwalk trail over bubbling mudpots and other thermal activity.

Lassen Peak Trail, Lassen Volcanic National Park. Popular trail climbs 2000' to spectacular panorama.

Kings Creek Falls Trail, Lassen Volcanic National Park. Trail leads from meadow to forest to a small but beautiful waterfall with wonderful cascades.

Lassen National Forest-Stover Mountain. Ski area: downhill, 4 runs, 13 acres, 2 lifts, 5500' elevation.

Lassen National Forest. Volcanic activity formed much of 1,200,000 acres around Lassen Volcanic National Park.  Includes the wilderness areas of Thousand Lakes, Heart Lake, Lassen Volcanic, Caribou, Wild Cattle Mtn., Mill Creek and Ishi. (916) 257-2151.

Eagle Lake. California's third largest natural lake, with boating, fishing, waterskiing. May  be very windy.

Deer Creek, Direct access to creek off Hwy 32. Ideal trout stream.

Devil's Subway Cave, on Hwy 89, 12 miles north of Manzanita Lake. Long cool lava tube. Flashlight and jacket needed.  Second flashlight recommended.

MacArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. 129' spectacular waterfall from two sources, a creek and an underground stream emerging from the fall's face.

Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park, north of Hwy 299, near the town of MacArthur. Wilderness area with basalt formations and fine views on north side of Big Lake. Accessed by boat only.

Ishi Wilderness, southwest of Lassen Volcanic National Park. 41,840 acres named for the lone survivor of the Yahi Yana Indians. Summer unpleasantly hot. (530) 258-2141 Almanor Ranger District.

Bucks Lake Wilderness, access at Belden on Highway 70, the Feather River National Scenic Byway. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the region's 21,000 acres.

Caribou Wilderness, east of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Lake filled plateau of 20,625 acres.

Thousand Lakes Wilderness, north of Lassen Volcanic National Park. 16,355 acres with numerous lakes. Access from Hwy 89 north of Lassen
Volcanic National Park.
