Catalina Island – Once the private playground to the Wrigley family, the island of Catalina draws a steady stream of visitors to the Los Angeles area. Unless you have your own yacht, you’ll arrive by ferry or helicopter from Long Beach for a day trip, a weekend or longer. The tiny town of Avalon restricts cars so visitors walk, ride bikes or rent golf carts to tour the town.
